From July 10-13, 2010, the Scheldekaaien and het
Eilandje on Antwerp’s waterfront will once again provide the backdrop for The Tall Ships Races. A walk along the riverside with a view of these “cathedrals
of the sea” is a breathtaking experience.

The largest tall ships will be moored along the Scheldekaaien, between het Steen and the Waagnatie. Other ships will tie up at the docks on het Eilandje, together with dozens of smaller vessels. On the Kattendijkdok, the Bonapartedok, the Willemdok and the Londenbrug the array of masts and rigging will create a spectacular decor.

There is also plenty of fun to be had. You can browse at a maritime market on the Willemdok while the kids can live it up at the “children’s village” at the Waagnatie. This is also the spot for various concerts and an evening spectacle. Additional entertainment and food and drink will also be available at numerous other locations.

Shuttle buses make it easy to get from one site to the next.  Shuttle service will also be provided from the parking facilities outside the city and from the Antwerpen-Centraal train station.

The event is completely free of charge and wheelchair accessible.

The site of the Tall Ships Races stretches from the Scheldt quays (Miniatuurstad) out to the entire area around the Kattendijk dock, Willem dock and the Bonaparte dock. Due to reasons of mobility and safety, this area will be secured every event day from 10.00 am until 11 pm and during this time only be accessible to residents, (public) services and suppliers that are officially recognised. The tall ships and other ships, the car parks and official accommodations that are within this area will also only be accessible with official accreditation.
