About The Tall Ships Races

Introduction

In the summer of 2010 Antwerp will be welcoming the Tall Ships Races. The city of Antwerp will be the port of departure of this prestigious event. The Tall Ships Races are a race with major international allure which celebrates the friendship between youngsters. In 2010 the "cathedrals of the sea" will be guests in Antwerp for the fifth time. The Port of Antwerp and the City of Antwerp will join forces to make this another unforgettable event.

Friendly race

The Tall Ships Races are the annual regattas for small and large sailings vessels, organised in European ports. The Tall Ships Races promote friendships between youngsters with sailing initiations and other joint activities.

The Tall Ships Races 2010 last a month and consist of three stages. The first stage, Antwerp-Aalborg and the final stage Kristiansand-Hartlepool are competitions at sea, where the participants head for the finish at full speed. The second stage, Aalborg-Kristiansand is a cruise in company. Crew activities are planned in each port and the general public

Showpiece

The Tall Ships Races are the showpiece of organiser Sail Training International. The first race was held in 1956 when the theme was also friendships between youngsters of various countries. The sailing competition attracts 70 to 100 ships every summer.
